Four matches, two lives for the top two, sudden death for everyone else.

The BBL finals are a four-match series that rewards finishing in the top two — and punishes fourth place brutally. Here is the exact path for BBL|16.

The four finals

Finals venues follow hosting rights — the higher-ranked team hosts — and are confirmed once the top four is known after the final league round on 17 January. BBL|15 showed the format's cruelty and kindness in one week: the Sixers lost the Qualifier in Perth, beat Hobart in the Challenger, then flew back to Perth and lost the Final anyway. Finishing top-two is worth two lives; finishing third or fourth means winning three straight sudden-death games. Track the race on the points table.
